Wax Rims

Mandibular Wax rims

Maxillary wax rim is placed buccal to the ridge

Posteriorly it extends to the maxillary tuberosity

Get the custom impressions ready.

Use double glove, not to burn the fingers

Take two sheets of base plate wax– Heat them and make them into one plate to increase the thickness

Fold the double thickness wax plate at 10mm increments

Make four folded sheets- two for the rims and the other two as carving pens

(Mineral waxes are more consistent in their properties and presentations. They are usually derived from the refining of petroleum products. One of the most commonly available is paraffin wax with a melting point of 40–70 °C. This wax has a tendency to show substantial volumetric contraction (in the region of 10–16%) during the cooling and solidification process.)

Mandibular Wax rims

The wax rim should be placed buccal anteriorly, on the ridge in the premolar region and lingual in the molar region.

Posterior height is 2/3 of retromolar pad

Width of the rim is 8-10 mm posteriorly and 3-5 mm anteriorly

Anterior border should not extend beyond the margin of record base

Draw the line from the middle of the retro molar pad to canine eminence and the was rim should be 4mm on each side
